Flopsy has mastitis in her left teat. I'm taking her to the vet today. So far she's had two doses of IM penicillin and two doses of aspirin for a high fever. Can't milk out the teat. I think they're going to have to irrigate it (yuck.).
Mastitis can be fatal if you ignore it. I'll keep y'all posted.
Massaging the whole udder and especially that one side with Peppermint and Lavender in a carrier oil will help. And Hot packs to get the milk flowing! That has to be done every 30 minutes till the milk starts flowing then probably every hour. Its NASTY when you first get it milked out. Then Pencillian for 5 days.
ReplyDeleteI just as a rule use the Peppermint in the teat dip/udder wash it helps with the blood flow and milk flow. Lavender and tea tree oil help with infections and bacteria.
I hope you get it taken care of Mastitis can be a nasty thing to deal with and some bad consquences if not taken care of quick!!
